Mollies Diner to Caffeine and Machine - January 2023

Opening the front door letting a bright sunrise pour in bringing with it a chilly breeze was a good way to start this Sunday. the few steps out to the car were crisp, it was clear why when opening the car and switching the ignition to see minus six degrees flashing up on the dashboard. That last quarter turn of the key was greeted with a cold start heading back into the house while the car defrosts. Moments later we’re on the move making our way to Mollies Diner & Motel over in the Cotswolds.

A very well designed diner, a 50’s Americana vibe with the best food to begin a day of jollying through the Cotswolds. Waffles, bacon and egg deletion later we’re on the road.

The planned route avoided the main arteries running through the Cotwolds as much as possible, taking in as much of the iconic landscapes, towns and villages.

First up was a wind the long way through from Mollies up to Burford, taking us around 45 minutes. The next twist was heading across to Bourton-on-the-Water, another 30 minutes on the road. We had a brief stop in Bourton to take some photos on the bridges crossing the stream that runs through the centre of town.

After our break, it was time for the last leg weaving through some of the smaller less known but stunningly scenic villages in the Cotswolds, many of which have been used for car photoshoots, films and TV series.

We were very fortunate with the weather, while it was bitterly cold the roads we in good condition with very few icy patches. The visibility was excellent too, relatively clear sky and most importantly, no random fog pockets.

The last stop of the day was for a late lunch at Caffeine and Machine, and as always the diversity in cars there was phenomenal. The obscurities in the parked up included a Martini liveried ford Ranger, a 1 of 500 when Colin McRae was rallying in the Ford Focus WRC car.

The great thing to see was how filthy everything was, despite the cold weather, salt that had been spread and ice everywhere no one had been deterred to come and enjoy their day. Rightly or Wrongly, there’s something amazing about seeing a filthy dirty Aston Martin Vanquish or Ferrari 488 GTB.

Getting out for drives like our jolly through the Cotsowolds is something we’re very passionate about, not only because we get to to experience some unreal roads but also because we get to spend time and have a laugh with our friends.
