BTRDA Borders Rally 2022
A surprisingly sunny day in the Scottish borders made all the better with screaming NA engines and anti-lag tearing through the forest.
The potentially optimistic plan was to watch stage one then drive to stage four to catch it before heading to the rally finish at Jedburgh Abbey. All was starting well, stage one had been a blinder watching every car come through. Timing wise there was two and a half hours for to do an hours drive to stage four, easy right?
The day started bright and early trudging through a boggy dew soaked field on the side of a hill just south of Jedburgh. It was impressive to see that despite the early start and being very much in the middle of nowhere, there was large crowd who’s all come to see some gravel spraying, sideways action.
Using the what 3 words destination in the spectators guide the satnav route went off deep into a signal deadspot at the bottom of a gravel forrest road. Naively, I set off up the track thinking it wouldn’t be far to the side of the stage, I was certainly wrong. Twenty minutes of driving down the track there was nothing, just miles of gravel and felled trees, no people and no signs, fantastic.
Eventually I gave up and having been on gravel for best part of an hour I found tarmac and dashed back to try and catch stage five.
Check out the photos taken from the rally, stage one was mostly trying to get the hang of panning shots. Stage five I was scrambling over trees, up and down hills and through ditches to try to find some more edgy angles. What do you think?
