Goodwood Members Meeting by Night
It’s rare to get the opportunity to be walking round a paddock at night let alone one filled with some of the most rare and interesting cars on the planet. You may have seen a selection of the paddock by day but the quiet of after dark adds a whole different perspective.
The lighting of the paddock at Goodwood lends itself perfectly to after hours, each bay is light from above creating an atmospheric glow over almost every car.
It’s bizarre to see it all so quiet, normally the area is heaving with people and noise, cars coming and going for races and refuel, spanners flying and engines warming up. To see everything in near silence and calm is almost therapeutic and allows you to fully immerse yourself in the automotive perfection around you.
A large portion of the cars are tucked up under a cover for the over night stint but this just further draws you eye to the uncovered cars making them stand out so much more in the darkness.
The care and attention shown by every team is impressive, every bay is left immaculate with nothing but a neatly presented car on show. All tools, spares and equipment is tucked out the way.
As always the variety of cars was unreal, check out the landscape snaps below from Ford GT40’s to Pre-War Bugattis to the chrome chaos of the Mercedes F1 car.

Not a Race Weekend Without Some Overnight Tinkering
Of course not every car gets an easy night…
It’s always impressive to see what level of carnage is going on round the paddock in preparation for the next day of racing. This year there was everything from body work being ‘gently’ reshaped with hammers on touring cars through to a bottom end engine rebuild with a pizza box as a bench. The dedication to not only being in the race the next day but pushing to be competitive is phenomenal.
