Collecting Cars Coffee Run at Bicester Heritage - 20/05/23

A caffeine enthused start to the weekend, a Collecting Cars coffee run at Bicester Heritage. With the airfield only being 25 minutes away it was a leisurely start to the morning and a nice nip through the twisty back roads for an 8:30am arrival time.
Upon arrival we were greeted with what looked like 75% of Stuttgart’s production, a row of Porsches as far as the eye could see. The general car park was awash with collectible and seldom seen gems ranging from a Lancia Thema 8:32 to imported Ford Thunderbirds and brands new supercars.
One of the stands outs was the Singer Turbo Study which sat pride of place in front of the hanger. The car somehow manages to simultaneously be totally eye catching yet blend in. At a glance it looks like an immaculately well presented, fully restored 930 Turbo, complete with original looking plastics. It’s only once you take a second look where you start seeing the attention to detail, starting with the defect-less paint, fault-less panel gaps and custom machined wheels. Even the plastics are re-manufactured far beyond anything Porsche ever achieved back in period.
The distinguishing feature of a 911 Turbo was also retained and perfected with whale tail jutting out from the rear of the car.
We were struck by how busy the morning was, with cars and people constantly arriving and leaving, providing a turn over of cars meaning you could do laps and never see the same arrangement twice. The numbers speak for themselves with more than 2000 cars and an estimated 3000 people in attendance to grab a coffee and chat with likeminded people.
With so much movement constantly happening around you, it provided a great challenge to try and capture the hustle and bustle.
Some of the stand outs included a Porsche 991 911 Speedster and a Honda NSX-R, a brace of cars that you never see on the road normally.
Thank you to Collecting Cars for organising an excellent morning, and thank you to everyone who came and showed exactly what is great about car culture in the UK with excellent chat, humour and intrigue.
