Goodwood Members Meeting, Paddock by Night
With the GT1 cars racing through dusk and sunset bringing the track action to a close and marking the start of Saturday evenings party. While most people were drinking, eating, playing games and watching live music, it was the perfect time to take a walk round the paddock with the moody lighting over all the cars illuminating them out of the darkness.
Walking round with barely anyone else around also highlighted how rare it is to see this level of motorsport royalty all in one place.
There is something quite surreal about seeing some of the fastest cars of their time sat stationary and sedately, some on stands with the wheels off, others under cover dormant and resting for another day of racing.
With so few people around at times it felt like we’d broken into a museum after hours, walking round somewhere we shouldn’t be with only the exhibits lit up.
As with every year there was multiple cars being stripped down to pieces ready to compete on Sunday. Tinkering away from final fettling of suspension to repairing body work and even engines stripped down with heads off. The GT1 section was a hive of activity through out the evening with light paintings being taken of the Ferrari 550’s, then almost all cars being checked over by mechanics equipped with head torches.
Getting the opportunity to see these cars in such peace and in the amazing lighting is a personal highlight of every members meeting. Thank you to Goodwood Road Racing Club and the car owners for organising the event and leaving such prestigious vehicles out to be enjoyed.
