Bicester Heritage Sunday Scramble - April 2023
An absolutely packed April morning at Bicester Heritage, the spring sun shining and the smell of petrol hot in your nostrils.
From a Pagani Huayra to Austin Sevens, all ages and all areas of car culture were covered by the attendees both in the forward parking and in the main Bicester Heritage site. The turnout to wander, eat and chat was exceptional.
One of the most eye-catching cars was a one of 36 Verde Lamborghini Miura P400s, widely regarded as the first ever super car the Miura should come with an explicit content warning. Parked beside a sledge hammer of a tool, a plump Lamborghini Countach LP5000 S, chalk and cheese compared to the Miura.
A twist from the normally featured cars in our articles, the Silvia S15 shown here was sat as a contrast to it’s wartime surroundings. Well known for being modified the various eras of Silvia have their own cult following. The S15 from factory had the SR20 engine, a 2 litre four cylinder with a turbo pumping out around 250 horsepower. On sale from 1999 to 2002 the S15 marked the end of the Silvia as Nissan discontinued the model in 2002.
2023 brings the LMP Hypercars back to racing, and sat within Sports Purpose was a mock up for the Hertz and Singer sponsored entrant to this years endurance racing.
The LMP cars make the already berserk GT3 and WEC level cars look positively tame in comparison. They share little to no parts with road going vehicles and the body is all out aero (as much as possible within the constraints of the class regulations).
Along with everyone else we’re looking forward to seeing the prototypes in action at Le Mans.
Kingsbury Racing is always a highlight while wandering around Bicester Heritage, specialising in four cylinder Bentleys including racing cars it’s an exciting place to look round.
Having spent the previous day watching these brutes monster their way around Silverstone, getting up close to see the mechanics was great.
The building fits it’s occupants perfectly too, a combination of period correct and modern tooling too bring the leviathans to life (including CNC machines).
With Morgan now housing some of their operations out of a unit on the airfield you could get up and involved with their new models which are now no longer made with a wooden chassis. The three wheeler featured a 1.5 litre Ford Eco Boost three cylinder which must be an amazing experience to drive.
Parked up not too far from the door of Morgan was a stunning Paint to Sample (PTS), Ruby Stone Red 992 GT3 Touring. While trying not to be too bias, this is hands down on of the ultimate PTS colours. While the 964 normally pulls off Rubystone Red best, this 992 was very close, although did spark a wing or no wing debate for the GT3.
As the crowds started to clear and the cars started heading home the site was buzzing with various engine layouts rumbling away. With a few seriously slow shutter speed panning shots of cars heading for the exit the day was over.
As always, thank you to Bicester Heritage and WeAreScramblers for organising such an excellent event.
